Accomplishments

In 2010, WINGS' Family Planning Initiative achieved the following:

  • 2,086 educational talks, counseling sessions, and home visits provided, reaching 17,954 people.
  • Through our partnership with APROFAM, we subsidized 4,714 permanent methods (4,188 tubal ligations and 526 vasectomies) and provided 2,288 Jadelle implants (a long-term method that protects women for up to 5 years) at 3 stationary clinics in the departments of Chimaltenango, Sacatepéquez, and Escuintla and various mobile clinics operating in 13 departments of Guatemala. 
  • Trained and supplied a network of 29 community family planning promoters in the departments of Chimaltenango, Sacatepéquez, and Escuintla, who distributed 17,735 temporary methods.
  • Trained 363 staff from 13 different Guatemalan-based organizations in reproductive health and family planning best practices.
  • Conducted 3 capacity building workshops, including one with military personnel, on sexually transmitted infections and HIV/AIDS prevention.
