Accomplishments
In 2010, WINGS' Cervical Cancer Prevention Program achieved the following:
- 122 clinics held in 5 departments in Guatemala, serving 3,381 women.
- Of the 3,381 women served, 868 women (26%) received their first-ever cervical cancer screening.
- 45 women’s tests came back positive (1.3% of women screened). Of these, 24 (53% who tested positive for pre-cancerous cells) were treated the same-day with cryotherapy. In total, 37 (1.1%) women were referred to specialists in Guatemala City for either positive test results or other complications.
- 1,163 women (of the 3,381 screened in 2010) were served through an exciting new partnership with Pantaleón (a Central American sugarcane producer).
