Accomplishments

In 2010, The WINGS Advocacy Program achieved the following:

  • 14 trainings conducted that focused on providing appropriate attention to adolescents in health center settings, political advocacy and gender, the benefits of sex education in schools, and sexual health and the prevention of STIs. These trainings reached a total of 439 health care professionals, youth, school administrators, teachers, NGO workers, midwives, health promoters, and government officials.
  • 7 talks conducted in 2 departments reaching 694 youth, parents and school teachers. Topics discussed included sexual and reproductive health rights, benefits of sex education and sex education in schools.
  • 3 forums about the benefits of sex education held for 26 teachers.
  • 1,500 condoms distributed.
  • 18,090 radio spots aired on 3 departmental and 26 community radio stations.
  • Program staff participated in the International Women’s Day March on March 8th held in Guatemala City.
