WINGS has benefited from the generous assistance of many talented and committed volunteers. You can volunteer whether you live in Guatemala or abroad.
WINGS occasionally needs interns or volunteers to assist with administration and fundraising at our main office in Antigua. We prefer to host volunteers who can make a commitment of at least one month, and who are available for 12 hours per week or more.
WINGS also offers several full-time, semester or summer-long internships per year for Master of Public Health students. Interns assist with special research projects and/or program evaluation.
Unfortunately, WINGS cannot offer any compensation to volunteers or interns. We do, however, provide the opportunity to work alongside our committed, energetic staff, and to learn about our programs. We will also provide letters of reference to interns who contribute more than one month of service.
Due to the structure of our programs, WINGS very rarely offers any volunteer opportunities in the field for foreign medical personnel or public health professionals. We are strongly committed to ensuring that all direct services are provided by Guatemalan staff in order to maximize program effectiveness and community buy-in.
If you would like to apply for an internship or volunteer position with WINGS, please send a letter outlining your interest and availability as well as a copy of your resume to info@wingsguate.org.
NESTs are groups of WINGS supporters who are committed to spreading the word about our work and raising funds to support our programs. NESTs host fundraising events in their local communities, share information about WINGS with friends and colleagues, and work directly with our staff in Antigua to remain up-to-date about the latest developments in our work.
We currently have active NESTs in the following areas:
Examples of recent NEST activities include:
NEST members receive quarterly e-newsletters containing insider information about WINGS’ programs, resources related to Guatemala and reproductive health, and suggestions for NEST activities.
For more information about NESTs, please see our NEST manual (PDF).
