Tonibelle Che, Youth WINGS Educator (Theater and Radio)

Tonibelle, scenic artist, has danced, participated in drama, clowning and other circus arts. She brings experience working with youth at risk and has incorporated art and artistic expression to her work as a psychologist. She joined WINGS in January 2011 to develop the component of theatre, radio and other forms of expression within the Youth WINGS Program working with youth peer educators in Sacatepéquez and Chimaltenango. Tonibelle says "teens are the key to change, they are not as dependent as a child, nor do they have rigid mindsets like adults, they are at the point where they are defining their personality, and consequently their attitudes. To teach them theater and motivate the exercise of reflection, to think, to analyze situations related to sexual and reproductive health, to provide information and access to services and see how they grow, how they mature and how they begin to take care of themselves is a privilege." Tonibelle believes that education in Guatemala and information on sexual and reproductive health is retained, not shared, not given, and that it is not for everyone. She believes that art at the service of education can forge paths, open minds and strengthen consciousness.
